Education: The UK System
The UK education system is in five categories:
Pre-School: Children aged 3-4 are eligible for 15 hours per week nursery places. For asylum families, NASS number is required to be eligible. The nursery applies directly to the Local Authority for nusery vouchers.
Primary School: Children aged 5-11 must legally attend school.
Secondary School: This phase is for children aged 11-16. Year group is allocated to a child based on his/her date of birth. However, depending on your area of residence, school places are limited. Therefore, plan ahead and check with different schools for availability.
Futher: Teens from aged 16-18 will attend a sixth form, college, or may enrol for vocational and academic courses.
Higher: For aged 18 and above. This is the degree attainment phase. Usually, this can be attain through some colleges or universities. It requires enrollment onto a university degree course.
